A pt came into our office on day and wanted us to lighten her lenses cuz they were to dark for her. We pulled the pt's record and there was no order on file with a black frame and Gray #3 lenses. We then asked where she got the glasses and she insisted she got them from us. We looked for the frame name and markings but were unable to see them. We placed the Pt's glasses into our ultra sonic cleaner, in under 3 minutes the lab smelled like nicotine. The smell was thick and it drifted out into the dispensing area. Pt's and opticians were having to leave the building it was so strong. Just then the Pt's came back in from her smoke break. We removed her glasses from the NOW black ultra sonic cleaning solution and found that they were indeed the glasses she got from us. The pt smoked so much that it had turned her PGX lenses into what looked like a Gray #3 coated lenses. She thanked us and went back outside for another smoke before she left.

I sincerely enjoy being a full time Optician, however in the six years of my career, I have had so many things amaze me. Heres just a few- How many times have you seen a tooth pick holding a nosepad in? or a paper clip holding the temple on? the best....hmmmmm your not suppose to use Windex to clean your glasses?? I have to say though- the MOST annoying question I have has got to be this...... "Why does that screw keep coming loose?"
